Leicester City Vs Southampton – A Battle for the “Best Of The Rest”

Leicester City and Southampton battle for 4th place, in what would be a toughly contested affair, as both teams are looking to challenge for a European spot.

Match Preview

Leicester are currently tied with Everton in 4th place, 1 point away from 2nd place with no room for error. Currently on a 4 game unbeaten run, with an impressive win against Tottenham and draw against United, they will be looking to keep their place in the top 4 when they host Southampton.

Ever since Leicester won their historic title in 2016, in one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, they established themselves as PL material and even battling in the top 4. Despite losing many of their key players along the years, the foxes can still rely on Jamie Vardy as he is still lethal in front of goal, netting 11 goals in 16 appearances so far. Another key player Brendan Rodgers can rely on is his Danish Goalkeeper Schmeichel, as he looks set to make his 400th competitive appearance.

On the other hand, Southampton were facing a tough stint and could not get a good result, until they faced Liverpool and had the perfect reaction. Ralph Hasenhuttl was so emotional after the game, finally being able to beat a side managed by Jurgen Klopp.

The saints will be looking to build on that incredible win, as they look to get even with Leicester on points and move into the top 4. It will not be an easy task, as Hasenhuttl is contending with a number of absentees ahead of the game. Moussa Djenepo has recently joined Nathan Redmond and Jannik Vestergaard on the long-term injury list, in addition to Danny Ings who will be missing after returning a positive covid test following the Liverpool match.

Match Prediction

This game should be a toughly contested affair, as both teams are looking to challenge for a European spot. Leicester home form have been awful, while the saints are decent on the road. Considering these factors, and the fact that Southampton have looked strong in defence this season, it should be a low scoring match. We fancy a draw here, while backing the under 2.5 goals seems also a logical bet.

Current Odds

  • Under 2.5 goals: 1.90
  • Both team to score: 1.80
  • Draw: 3.75
