Derby Della Capitale: Who Will Conquer Rome?

The first “Derby Della Capitale” will be played this Friday, as all eyes will turn once again on the eternal city to watch the battle between Lazio and Roma. Who will concquer Rome on derby day?

Match Preview

Ever since I moved to Italy, I’ve grown fond of the Italian culture and football. Lucky for me, this year’s title race is as exciting as ever. Both Milan clubs are back at it occupying the first 2 seats, Roma playing some great football which saw them in 3rd place, and one point away from 4th place is Juventus who’s gunning for a 10th straight title.

This derby could not have come in a better time, both Lazio and Roma won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. Lazio had impressive wins against Napoli and Fiorentina, while losing a tight game against leaders AC Milan. On the other hand, Roma was able to salvage an important point against Inter in the last minutes of the game. In addition, they are still undefeated at home, and since both teams play their home games at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma will look to benefit and extend their run.

The Giallorossi are unbeaten in their last 7 Serie A league derbies against Lazio in the first half of the season (W5 D2). Fonesca will be hoping to field his best players to extend that run

On the other hand, the Biancocelesti will be missing some key players for the derby. Inzaghi confirmed that Fares and Cataldi will not be fit, however they will hope to have Luis Alberto and Immobile ready. As for Correa, time will tell if he will be fit enough to start or not.

Match Prediction

We can speak statistics, numbers, data and even try to guess the outcome of the game. However, we all know that in football, derby games are not regular ones. Everything is different, and even if this one will be different in it’s own way, without fans attending, it won’t affect the importance of the performances nor the bragging rights.

One thing we know for sure, this fixture is not shy for goals. Backing both teams to score would make the most sense here, specially that both legs ended in a 1-1 draw last season. It’s hard to pick a winner in a derby, although Roma are better on papers, but that’s not something we can rely on. Besides goals, cards would seem appropriate as well. We all know Daniele Orsato is not shy of showing his cards, and it’s a derby after all so players will be more aggressive than ever. Get to know tomorrow’s referees below.

Current Odds

  • Over 1.5 goals: 1.20
  • Over 2.5 goals: 1.61
  • Both team to score: 1.50
  • Lazio Win/Draw: 1.57
  • Roma Win/Draw: 1.40
