Barcelona Vs Sevilla – Copa Del Rey Semi Final Second Leg

The Catalans are set to take on Los Rojiblancos tomorrow for the return fixture of the Copa semi final. Can Barca repeat Saturday’s performance? This will be the final chance for either team to book the first spot of the finals. Who will it be? This is Barcelona Vs Sevilla – Copa Del Rey Semi Final Second Leg.

Match Preview

Both teams will meet for the 2nd time in 4 days, as Barca were able to get the first revenge on Saturday. The Blaugrana secured a much needed 2-0 away win, as they are now 5 points behind Atletico for first place. As for Sevilla, they will look to forget about Saturday’s night and focus on securing a place for the final. Who will come on top? We’ll discuss it in our match analysis.

FC Barcelona

We’ve said this over and over again, but Barca’s inconsistency is costing them the season. Their title hopes might be over, as they are 5 points behind Atletico and having played a game more. However, Koeman still has a chance for a silverware this season if he can master tomorrow’s game. We have already seen that they can beat Sevilla, doing so just couple of days ago with a solid 2-0, the same result they lost with in the first leg. The Catalans cannot afford to end the season without any trophy, so they must react tomorrow and make a huge comeback.

Los Blaugranas are not shy on football miracles. In fact, two of their last 4 encounters in the Copa have resulted in extra time. Who can forget the famous Granada game, coming from 2-0 down with couple of minutes left to force extra time and eventually win the game? That kind of urgency is what Barca needs tomorrow if they want to qualify. Besides this clash, Barca still have decisive games to come. The Catalans will play 3 league matches; 2 of them away from the Camp Nou. In addition, on March 10 they will visit Parc Des Princes for the return leg of the CL, in which they must overcome a 4-1 defeat to qualify. I know we said the league and Champions League are “realistically over” for them, but eventually this is football and anything is still possible until the final whistle.

Sevilla FC

Los Nervionenses were on a 6 games winning streak before the loss on Saturday. Jules Kounde’s superb effort and a late strike from Ivan Rakitic secured a much needed win in the first leg. However, after Saturday’s game, a 2 goal margin might not be enough for them to qualify. Sevilla still have a lot of work to do if they want to secure a place in the final.

The Andalusians are also competing in Europe, having lost the first leg at home against Dortmund 3-2. Anything is still possible for the 2nd leg, however the focus now should be on the Copa. Sevilla enters this game having only won once in two legged ties against Barcelona over the last 48 years. However, they could still qualify even if they lose, in case the game ended 1-0 for example.

Match Prediction

Barcelona Vs Sevilla – Copa Del Rey Semi Final Second Leg. Bottom line is, this should be a ferocious encounter with both teams having already beat each other before, wanting a place in the final. It could come all the way for someone to secure the spot. Barca’s 2-0 win on Saturday will give the club the needed push and motivation, especially that they are playing at home now. However, Sevilla will be tougher after learning from that game and adjusting for the clash. That was one of only three losses suffered by Sevilla in their last 22 games in all competitions. So it will take something special to knock them out. I wonder who can do that? Oh wait, Barca have a little man by the name of Leo Messi. Expect this to be an entertaining match to say the least.

Current Odds

  • Over 2.5 goals: 1.60

  1. Great post, would love to see more. Just a suggestion, I think ‘Los Rojiblancos’ are usually used to address Athletico Madrid though it means Red and White. I might be wrong, but just saying!
