Bayern Munich Vs PSG – Can The Parisians Get Their Revenge?

A preview of the 2020 Champions League final will take place this week, only this time it’s over a two legged tie. The first leg will be played tomorrow night at the Allianz Arena, as the Bavarians prepare to protect their title. Do they have what it takes again this year? Or will the French champions prove to be too much? This is Bayern Munich Vs PSG – Can The Parisians Get Their Revenge?

Match Preview

Both teams are struggling a bit domestically as they head into this game. Nonetheless, they remain the favorites to secure the league titles as well as the Champions League. PSG face fierce competition from Lille, Monaco and Lyon in the title race at the moment. While Bayern on the other hand were in danger of losing grip on 1st place, but they were able to secure a huge win away at Leipzig on the weekend. It feels like the two of them have so much more potential, especially after some clinical performances in the CL this season, so will they put that on display tomorrow night?

Bayern Munich

The Bavarians head into this game unbeaten in their last 19 games in the Champions League (W18 D1) and could become only the second team in the competition’s history to go 20 consecutive games without losing, after Manchester United. Bayern were able to eliminate Lazio 6-2 on aggregate to advance but they face a much trickier tie with PSG, as the Parisians look to avenge last year’s final loss. It will not be an easy task for the Germans, especially with the absence of Lewandowski, who they rely on so much in their style of play. Can they fill his place for now? Although they don’t have a “striker” of Robert’s caliber, but Flick does have talents he can use in attack and play in a different way. So how will he set up his team tomorrow?

Like they did on the weekend, Die Roten did not need Lewa to secure a huge win at Leipzig, as Goretzka’s screamer was enough to maintain their place at the top of the league. With his assist on Saturday, Muller is now up to 15 in the season and counting, as he remains a vital piece in Flick’s tactics. Can he deliver again at the big stage? In addition to Robert, Bayern were also missing Boateng and Davies, however Lucas and Sule filled in perfectly to protect the clean sheet. It remains to be seen whether Hansi will opt out for the speed of Alphonso or the physicality of Hernandez for the clash. Both are world class players and provide the coach with different options to use, so it’s up to him to fit the puzzle together.

Paris Saint-Germain

The French champions are still a work in progress under new man Pochettino, and we are being reminded of that every week now. Despite the world class attacking players they have, PSG were left devastated with a 1-0 loss at home against leaders Lille, as Neymar was handed another red card this season. With that defeat, they now drop to 2nd place with a 3 point gap, as Monaco and Lyon are breathing down their neck. Mauricio cannot afford anymore slip ups as the focus shift on the Champions League for now.

On the other hand, their form in the CL is nowhere near their form domestically. Who can forget the sensational performance against Barca, when Mbappe made Camp Nou his playground after he scored an impressive hattrick. In addition, PSG are not shy of finding the back of the net as they look to secure an important away goal. In fact, Bayern’s 1-0 win in the 2019-20 final represents the only time that the French champions have failed to find the back of the net in their last 43 Champions League matches. On top of that, they have two of Europe’s brightest attackers in Mbappe and Neymar. Can they go all the way? Or will Pochettino’s only previous match against Bayern, in which he lost 7-2 as Spurs manager, come back to haunt him?

Team News

Lewandowski remains the most influential absentee for Bayern as they prepare for the clash against PSG. Boateng and Davies both missed the weekend’s game due to suspension, but are available and well rested if Flick opted to start them. It remains to be seen if former PSG attacker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is set to lead the line tomorrow night, or will Gnabry occupy the “striker” position with Coman, Muller and Sane behind him.

On the other hand, Verratti and Florenzi have both returned positive coronavirus tests and will miss the game. In addition, Layvin Kurzawa and Mauro Icardi are also not included in the squad to face Bayern on Wednesday. However, Danilo Pereira has recovered from his injury and will travel to Munich.

Prediction & Current Odds

Bayern Munich Vs PSG – Can The Parisians Get Their Revenge? Bottom line is, we expect this to be an epic battle. Both teams have world class players that they can rely on to deliver, especially in the attacking part. In other words, we won’t be surprised if both of them scored. However, Bayern’s squad looks more complete for this encounter, so we are backing a narrow 1st leg win for the Bavarians.

  • Over 2.5 goals: 1.57
  • Both Teams To Score: 1.50
